A Bright 2024 Ahead for ASGA
The Australian Sign & Graphics Association has a long history of supporting the signage, display, graphics and wide-format print sector, and helping its members build stronger, more successful businesses. After a year of significant achievement in 2023, the ASGA is looking to the future with enhanced member benefits and some exciting plans for the year ahead.

Mick Harrold, ASGA President.
The plans for 2024 start at the highest level, with government representation and advocacy. ASGA will continue the positive discussions which commenced last year with representatives from the Federal Government and the Manufacturing Industry Skills Alliance (MISA) last year, and will also be connecting with the newly-formed BuildSkills Australia, which is the Jobs & Skills Council in charge of Construction.
These important discussions will centre around recognising the sign and graphics sector as a key manufacturing industry as well as part of the construction sector, and working with government on important issues from business supports to the availability of training opportunities and qualifications.
The challenge of finding staff continues, making training a priority for the Association. This year, the ASGA will continue its productive, ongoing discussions with TAFEs and other RTOs on everything from availability of training to course structure and content. The aim is to ensure training remains relevant and appropriate to meet industry needs and support a strong future for the sector.

Our careers program will continue in 2024.
ASGA’s own campaign to attract new talent to the industry will once again be a significant focus, with Visual Impact Brisbane in July set to be a key focus for student visits, ‘try-a-trade’ activities and careers discussions. This will be complemented by participation in careers expos in Melbourne in March, SA and Queensland in May, WA in July and NSW in August, and industry taster days later in the year, to connect students with training and employment opportunities.
Industry plays an important role in this, too, providing the employment opportunities necessary in order for young people to pursue a career in the sector. The ASGA encourages businesses to consider harnessing the abundant talent and enthusiasm of young school leavers by offering apprenticeship opportunites. Interested students and willing employers can register their interest via the Careers section of the ASGA website.
In July, Visual Impact will be held in Queensland, providing an important opportunity for businesses to gather the latest information and ideas and invest in their future. ASGA will be there to drive engagement with students, connect with industry businesses and suppliers, and provide valued networking opportunities.
Fostering connections through networking events is always a focus for ASGA, and 2024 will be no different, with a host of activities planned from Golf Days, to after-work social Bowls games, as well as the trade show gatherings. You can check all the latest events here.

More social events like Golf Days are on the agenda.
When it comes to industry events, few are bigger than the Sign & Graphics Awards, which are also scheduled for 2024. Celebrating the ‘best of the best’ produced by the industry, they are the pinnacle of achievement for sign, display, wide-format print and graphics businesses, and the Association is encouraging all businesses to enter their best work in this year’s competition.
Finally, ASGA Members are also set to benefit even more from their membership in 2024.
The new year will kick off with webinar sessions on Mental Health, Tapes and Paints (see the whole webinar program on the Events page) which are all completely free of charge for Members.
An expanded and revamped selection of templates and legal and workplace resources will be available to Members at signs.org.au. These will complemented by the new ASGA Workplace Advice Line, which provides ASGA Members with free access to the experts at Australian Business Lawyers & Advisors.
At the time of publishing, the ASGA Board was also working to assemble a panel of experts to provide advice and guidance on a wide range of issues from glues and tapes, to colour calibration, spray booth painting and other key areas, with progress to be announced during 2024. The need for such expertise has been illustrated by the popularity of the webinar series, and will provide members with the opportunity to ask questions, obtain advice and access troubleshooting services to meet the specific needs of their own business.
These latest offerings are in addition to a wide range of business and technical resources, discounts and special promotions, free access to industry networking events and a other benefits, bringing the total estimated value of membership to more than $4,500. If you are not already an ASGA Member, you can join here.
