ASGA Urges Caution When Taking Unsolicited Calls

ASGA has warned industry businesses to exercise caution when fielding unsolicited calls, following a spate of calls to industry businesses where the caller claims to have been provided with the call recipients details by ASGA.

The most recent incidents of this nature involved a company purporting to offer intermediary services to help businesses win contracts in major industry sectors.

The callers have introduced themselves by saying they have been ‘put on to’ the call recipient by ASGA, implying that the Association supports their activities and encourages our members and other industry businesses to engage their services.

ASGA President, Mick Harrold, responded to situation, stating categorically that, “The fact is that ASGA never shares our database information with any third parties.”

Mick explained that even when the ASGA strikes agreements for special Member offers on products and services, the Association never authorises the provider to contact industry businesses directly. Rather, the offer is communicated via ASGA channels, putting the business owner in control of whether or not they wish to engage with the service provider.

“It is clear that there are companies out there who are harvesting information from our online directory of signage providers, and then claiming a relationship with ASGA in order to appear more legitimate,” Mick says.

“If you receive an unsolicited call from any business which claims to have been provided with your details by ASGA, we urge you to proceed with the utmost caution. From past experience, we know that businesses who misrepresent such things up front in their sales pitch are often not completely transparent about their services, the benefits to their customers, and – importantly – the cost of such services,” he added.
