ASGA Hosts Largest Ever Victorian Sign & Print Golf Day
A record number of 86 golfers turned out at the Heidelberg Golf Course in Melbourne for the annual ASGA Victorian Sign & Print Golf Club last Thursday yesterday.
The event was the final in the 2025 series, sponsored by Graphic Art Mart, and was held on a cool but fine Melbourne day, providing perfect conditions for 18 holes of golf played in the Ambrose style, which favours fun and teamwork.
Competition was keen, with teams representing suppliers and industry businesses vying for a host of prizes, for everything from longest drive and nearest to the pin, to the hotly-contested Survivor Ball.
Prizes were presented at an industry lunch in the Clubrooms following play, with a good number of other signage identities joining the group for a chance to catch up with colleagues from across the industry before the holiday rush really sets in.
This year, first place went to Team 3M – Mat, Dean, Samie and Aaron – who beat out a number of close contenders for top spot.
The Melbourne event also saw the presentation of the first annual Series Trophy, the ‘Punchy’, awarded to the team which boasted the best performance across all ASGA Golf Days – in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne.
Named after industry legend and former ASGA Member & Events Manager, Michael Punch, the trophy has been established as a perpetual Award which recognises the ongoing support of participating companies as much as their overall performance – something for which Punchy himself is well known.
“The Punchy recognises the things that Michael Punch embodies – the spirit of participation, camaraderie and support for the industry, as much as it recognises achievement,” said Damian Nielsen, Member & Events Manager for ASGA.
“It was great to be able to present the inaugural Punchy to Graphic Art Mart, who have not only supported our Golf Day Series as sponsors this year, but have entered teams in each of the ASGA Golf Days around the country, and achieved some great results.”
This was the first ASGA Golf Day at Heidelberg, and Damian says it was a great choice – a beautiful course, with plenty of interest and challenge – including a resident flock of goats! – and exceptional club rooms and staff.
“Our Golf Day Series is a great chance for business owners, professionals and suppliers to make new connections, renew old friendships, and enjoy a day away from the office, and Melbourne this year delivered in spades, with a fantastic turnout, a great game and plenty of opportunity to network,” he said.
“It was a great way to finish up the Series.”
The 2025 ASGA Sign & Print Golf Series is made possible by the generous support of of industry-leading suppliers Spicers, Graphic Art Mart, Bentleigh Group, Mulford, ORAFOL, Signarama, SMIB, Spicers and Bounce LED/LetterTech. They were joined for the Melbourne event by SMIB, Peak Install and HVG Graphics Media.
