2024 Sign & Graphics Awards – Signcraft & Sculpture

When entering the Currie Group 2024 National Sign & Graphics Awards, selecting the right category under which to enter your project is vital. Luckily, the selection is probably broader than you think!

This month, we feature two creative categories: Fabrication – Sculptural and Traditional Signcraft Skills.

In 2022, a new category was added to the National Sign & Graphics Awards, to recognise the increasing use of signage fabrication as a sculptural element. Fabrication – Sculptural is a category designed for projects where signage may not be the primary focus – but rather, the creation of sculptural forms and graphic elements fabricated from any material. This includes projects like fabricated art pieces, sculptural creations for public places, and interesting elements created to create impact in building lobbies and corporate spaces.

Some outstanding entries were received for the 2022 Awards, including the 3D feature walls at the Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital, an Urban Clock Tower, the Louis Vuitton Chevron Wall, and the gateway to the Cape Archway in North Queensland.

Also on the more creative side of the ledger, the Traditional Signcraft Skills, Airbrushing or Handpainted Murals category rewards some of the great artists still working in our trade.

In the last Awards, a first-time entrant winning the Gold Award for the Ice Cream Mural at Emerald Creek, and the only New Zealand company to enter the Awards taking out the Silver for their hand-painted Kool Moon, which can be seen outside a small country motel. Leo’s Kingdom Play Centre in Altona, Victoria, also featured in the list of finalists – what an impact that must have on the many children who spend happy hours there!
