QUEENSLAND ELECTRICAL SAFETY REVIEW COMPLETE

The final report on the review of Queensland’s Electrical Safety Act 2022 has recently been released.

It includes 83 recommendations to ensure the State’s electrical safety laws continue to provide high standards of safety for workers and communities. These cover issues from emerging energy generation and storage technologies, electric vehicles, hydrogen-based electricity generation, storage technologies, off-grid generation, and regulatory, licensing, and supply chain duties reform.

Published alongside the final report is a Discussion Paper that considers options to address the following issues raised in the review:

  • Electrical safety considerations of new and emerging technologies
  • The changing landscape of electricity and the workforce
  • Electrical safety and electric vehicles.

Electrical safety impacts all Queenslanders including businesses, workers, members of the supply chain and the community.

Queenslanders can give their feedback on the discussion paper from 16 May to 27 June 2023, while feedback on all other issues will be open through to 15 August 2023, through two consultation periods.
