Wet Weather Fails to Dampen Enthusiasm at WA Golf Day
Could you believe it? After seven months of drought in the West, the much anticipated industry golf event in Perth on Thursday 30 May was expected to be played under sunny skies and on a firm track. However, as always, the weather gods had the last laugh, with rain setting in early in the week. Nothing dampens the enthusiasm of sign and graphics professionals, and the day was a huge success.
While it may have been welcome news for grounds staff at the Wembley Golf Course, the change in weather meant that more than 80 ASGA golfers had to brave inclement weather to take on the challenge of the well-regarded course, as well as their their competitors, many of them sporting very high golf handicaps.
The formula of Ambrose Golf, which prioritises fun over skill levels, and a swathe of prizes for a range of different achievements during the round, proved to be as successful as ever, with golfers enjoying the many challenges and wins along the way. As is always the case with ASGA Golf Days, the camaraderie amongst all attendees, both during the golf and at the presentation dinner, was obvious to all.
Following the golf, WA Chair, Wade French, welcomed all to the event, and introduced Damian Nielsen , ASGA Vice-President, who outlined the work being done in promoting and expanding the Sign & Print Career Connections program across Australia, and its success in generating interest in our industry from young people. He also mentioned the social bowls event that is in planning for the second half of the year for WA industry professionals – again, an event that requires little skill, but a willingness to participate in plenty of fun.
The winning team in the Ambrose event was the Graphic Art Mart No 2 team : Andrew Broun, Michael Wellbeloved, John Smith, Dave Rayside with an overall score of 53.5 pts. The Peter Oliver ORAFOL team was runners-up – congratulations to Peter Oliver, Barry Boyd, Josh Farr and Paul McOmish on achieving 53.8 pts.
Thanks go to Graphic Art Mart, Spandex, ORAFOL, Mulford Australia and all the event’s novelty prize sponsors, and the companies who entered teams, for making this another great industry networking event.
