ASGA Lobbies For ‘Sensible’ Rules in City of Melbourne
The ASGA has reacted to a City of Melbourne proposal to change its Planning Scheme in regards to signage, following the release of a 115 page report at the Council’s latest meeting on 23 July.
While the Council claims to have consulted with external stakeholders during the review, no approach has been made to ASGA which is the peak body representing the signage industry in Australia.
ASGA President Mick Harrold has contacted the City of Melbourne to express the Association’s commitment to working with them, as we do with Councils and Government bodies around Australia.
“It’s important that government at every level consults with industry to ensure that proposals are based on fact and lead to achievable outcomes,” Mick says. “The current proposal demonstrates a lack of understanding of some basic principles related to signage and suggests a number of things which would be impractical, if not impossible, to implement, such as requiring illuminated signs to be progressively dimmed as the night goes on.
“ASGA is committed to working with all stakeholders to ensure our industry is governed by sensible rules which minimise confusion and , most importantly, can be enacted in the real world.”
